Jayco® RVs Cater to Off-Road Enthusiasts

July 6, 2005

RV manufacturer Jayco Inc. provides a variety of products specifically designed for off-road adventurers and extreme RVers. The off-road line-up consists of the Talon ZX™ sport utility trailer and the Baja editions of the Jay Feather™ travel trailer and the Jayco camping trailer.

“We wanted to offer outdoor adventurers RVs that complement their off-roading excursions with convenience and comfort at the end of the day,” said Sid Johnson, Jayco director of marketing. “The demand for more durable, off-road-ready RVs has increased, so we have developed several RVs that suit the new generation of outdoor enthusiasts.”

Built for rough terrain, the Baja camping trailer sports 13 inches of ground clearance, while heavy-duty shock absorbers and leaf springs enable the trailer to take on rough terrain. Among the unit’s special features are 15-inch off-road tires and a 60-inch front deck that can carry up to 650 pounds for ATV or bike storage.
With six models in this year’s line-up – three travel trailers and three fifth wheels – the Talon ZX is a secure transporter for off-road “toys” that is sturdy enough to handle rough terrain. Jayco outfitted the cargo bay to accommodate a variety of vehicles, like ATVs, dirt bikes, motorcycles and snowmobiles. Thanks to a unique spring-hinge system, the tailgate drops down to provide a lightweight, yet sturdy loading ramp with a 2500-pound capacity with no assist cables to get in the way. The tailgate also features non-skid surfaces, along with top and bottom transition plates to keep ATVs or motorcycles with low ground clearance from bottoming out during loading or unloading. The interior includes plenty of comfortable accommodations for the entire crew.

Demand for off-road ready units inspired the Jay Feather Baja edition. Rough-terrain equipment allows these units to go where typical travel trailers can’t. Exterior features include additional ground clearance, 15-inch off-road tires and chrome rims that easily handle rough terrain. Light bars with spotlights are located on the roof, while a checkered fabric awning offers shade. The Jay Feather Baja edition has expandable, tip-out bunks and a 60-inch front deck for hauling bikes or an ATV.

Jayco is one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of recreation vehicles and produces a complete line of camping trailers, lightweight travel trailers, conventional travel trailers, fifth-wheels, sport utility trailers and Class C motorhomes under the Jay Series, Select, Baja, Jay Feather, Jay Flight, Eagle, Designer, Talon, Escapade, Greyhawk, Granite Ridge and Seneca brand names.
